Velkommen! Välkommen! Velkominn! Tervetuloa! Tere tulemast!

Dear festival guests, dear friends of Nordischer Klang,

The year 2021 holds two great anniversaries in store for us: In addition to the 30th anniversary of Nordischer Klang, this year we will also celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Finnish lectureship at the University of Greifswald, which was the first of its kind in Germany at the time. So it is perfectly fitting that Finland in particular is the patron of this year’s festival.

In order to optimally counter the developments of the current Corona pandemic, the Nordic Sound will be divided into two parts and extended to the summer months. During the actual festival period from 7 to 22 May 2021, a virtual programme will be offered with digital readings, colloquia and concerts, thus transporting the festival feeling to your home.

However, our festival thrives on internationality and on-site encounters. That is why we are pursuing the goal of enabling live cultural experiences with the approximately 50 artists from Northern Europe in Greifswald again. On two weekends in July (23-25 July) and August (20-22 August), Nordischer Klang will once again enrich the cultural life of the beautiful Hanseatic and university city in the form of open-air events.

We also want to celebrate our 30th anniversary with a festive event at the Theater Vorpommern on 21 August 2021. The Finnish accordion virtuoso Antti Paalanen is expected to be the musical act of the jubilee event, who is sure to cause a sensation with his rousing rhythms and strong stage presence.
